       威廉華萊士（1272-1304）是蘇格蘭的民族英雄，一生追尋自由，並且至死不渝，死時年僅32歲，今天，人們仍然可以在蘇格蘭很多地方看到威廉華萊士的紀念碑，而最著名的是在史特林堡的華萊士紀念碑。華萊士作為一個民族英雄，他被塑造成了各種各樣威武的形象，儘管他只活了32歲，在蘇格蘭我們還不時可以看到白髮銀鬚的華萊士畫像，作為蘇格蘭民族精神的象徵，他永遠活在蘇格蘭人民的心中。

       今天世人知道這號人物，應該歸功於梅爾吉伯遜主演的『英雄本色』，我在愛丁堡藝術節的皇家哩大道目睹街頭藝人模仿電影裡梅爾吉伯遜的裝扮，把自己的臉上塗得藍藍的，頗有特色，到了史特林堡，更是得到城堡門口的華萊士雕像前朝聖一番!
